As a brand deeply rooted in the Italian territory, FENDI has the preservation of the beautiful Italian landscapes at heart.
For this reason, FENDI has chosen to requalify an abandoned industrial site in the hills of Tuscany to build its new pole of excellence, distinguished by a state-of-the art environmental performance.
Moreover, all our Italian sites and offices are certified against the best Environmental and Health & Safety standards (ISO 14001 and ISO 45001), with the aim of providing our employees with a safe workplace and improving the sustainability of production processes.
Stores are an important showcase of a brand’s sustainability commitment. This is why FENDI has been working on a strategy to lower the environmental footprint of stores worldwide. As part of the LVMH Group, FENDI has enthusiastically adhered to the LVMH LIFE in Stores Award, which encourages LVMH Maisons to implement environmental best practices in stores. FENDI has participated in the Life in Stores Award by installing or replacing 100% LED lighting in stores.
Pioneer in the LVMH Group, FENDI has also embarked on a journey to make all stores more efficient and greener thanks to the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. This ambitious certification program is the most widely used rating system for the built environment, assessing resource-efficient design, construction, operations and maintenance of buildings.
By the end of 2021we will obtain the LEED Interior Design + Construction (ID+C) Certification for our new Sydney and Chengdu stores. This certification applies to new buildings and aims at developing indoor spaces that are better for the planet and for people. The next target is to have 14 new stores worldwide LEED ID+C certified by the end 2022.
We also put in place ambitious targets for our existing stores with the LEED Operations & Management (O&M) certification. This certification applies to existing buildings and aims at improving their environmental impact, the energy efficiency and resource use and to monitor and guarantee the best quality of indoor environment for customers and employees.
In 2021 we obtained the LEED O&M certification for 16 stores. The target is to have 14 stores renovated and LEED O&M certified by the end 2022.
In addition to the LEED program, FENDI has embraced the recently released LVMH LIFE in Stores Certification Scheme Version4, structured upon 36 quality requirements that are equivalent to or stricter to national and international standards and certifications, such as LEED, BREEAM and HQE.
FENDI is working to implement the ambitious environmental guidelines in developing and renovating FENDI’s stores, with the objectives to have all 14 new/renovated freestanding stores certified in 2022 and also all stores developed in accordance with LIFE in STORE Certification. In 2021 we have done the first pilot in MILANO GALLERIA, in order to verify the feasibility of the new certification protocol.
As proof of its commitment to protecting the environment, FENDI has decided to supply for its offices in Rome and Milan, production sites and all stores in Italy 100% energy from renewable sources.
The objective in the near future is to extend the supply of clean energy to the entire FENDI network.
In 2021 Fendi started a research and development program on a new LED lighting system, with more energy efficiency. The first pilot project was realized in FENDI Montenapoleone store, in Milan. We observed a better lighting focus on merchandising and a more comfortable and elegant environment, matched with a reduction of 30% CO2 –eq emissions.
Energy reporting project consists in the installation of one, two or more meters into the electrical cabinet of the store. Meters are settled on and in charge to comunicate with the cloud and through the software we can read the actual energy consumption. The benefits of this project are many: compare and track consumption in live time and prevent losses and delays. 2022 strategy is to install the meters on 59 flagship stores. As represented in the mapping below, we will install meters in Europe Stores during quarter 1, following with Greater China and ending the year with America.
