Precious materials like fur and leather are at the core of our artisanality and heritage.

The profound respect we have for such materials is the reason why we are committed to working only with raw materials that are sourced ethically and produced in compliance with the highest ethical, social, and environmental standards.

Our priority is to respect workers, the environment, and biodiversity throughout all the different stages of each of the animal-based supply chains. Our strategic approach relies on the ambition to reduce our impact on nature and our commitment is based on quantitative and qualitative targets that ensure sustainable sourcing and processing of our raw materials.

OUR COMMITMENTS: 100% STRATEGIC RAW MATERIALS RESPONSIBLY SOURCED by 2026

LVMH has published an ambitious Animal-based Raw Materials Sourcing Charter, that defines the Group and its Maisons’ concrete commitments for progress in Sourcing fur, leather, exotic leather, wool, and feathers. For further details, check out LVMH’s Animal-Based Raw Material Charter.

As part of LVMH, we are also an active member of the BSR (Business for Social Responsibility), a non-profit organisation promoting a more transparent and sustainable industry.

Fur

CRAFTSMANSHIP

For us, fur is the most precious material, manually worked and fashioned by skilled and experienced artisans. We are proud of our in-house fur atelier, where craftsmanship and creative skills achieve the quintessence of savoir-faire and materialise as artistic expression.

RESPONSIBLE SOURCING

As a world leader in the creation and design of fur collections, we adhere to the highest ethical sourcing standards and we operate in full compliance with all international, national, and regional regulations, supporting traceability as a tool for transparency and innovation. Our mission is to ethically supply quality furs for those customers who have freely chosen to wear fur, and we are unwaveringly committed to respecting everyone’s opinion and freedom of choice.

We have established long-lasting partnerships and dialogue with the best suppliers – from International Auction Houses, to Italian tanneries - who guarantee to purchase only certified Welfur Standard pelts, in line with the LVMH animal-based sourcing principles.

In 2022 we adopted Furmark®, a comprehensive global certification, and traceability system for natural fur that guarantees animal welfare and environmental standards along the supply chain. The certification includes several different certification programmes that are subject to third-party assessment, and Welfur is one of them.

We have already set our target: achieving 100% certified Furmark® pelts by 2023.

Exotic Leather

As one of the LVMH Maisons, we only purchase exotic leather from certified farms that respect strict standards on animal welfare, and that is identified by a certification of origin that guarantees rigorous control in the supply chain, from the farm to the boutique.

For crocodile leather, we adhere to the pioneering LVMH standards for responsible crocodilian leather sourcing, developed by technical experts and validated by NSF International. The entire supply chain is evaluated on 4 pillars:

1. Conservation of the species, and respect of local communities;
2. Animal welfare principles;
3. Working conditions;
4. Environmental protection.

88% of Crocodilian Leather supplied in 2022 came from farms audited or certified by the LVMH Crocodilian Standard.
